Buying a car represents a range of other expenses, in insurance(s), fuel and of course maintenance, one of the factors that still weigh heavily in the purchase decision.
The website www.caredge.com is dedicated to analyzing and comparing the maintenance costs during the first ten years of a new vehicle’s life, as well as the cost of any major repairs worth more than 500 euros.
In its most recent report, it reveals which are the 10 vehicles for sale in Portugal with the most affordable maintenance and the least chance of major breakdown.
Tesla Model 3
The research shows the Tesla Model 3 as the cheapest new car to maintain. Despite the purchase price, which is not low (from 54,990 euros), the experts at caredge.com calculate a 10-year maintenance cost of 3,500 euros. While the probability of a major repair is only 8.64%.
For the Toyota Prius, the maintenance costs over 10 years are estimated by those responsible for this study at 3,900 euros. In the first year the costs are around 150 euros, while in the last year the invoice to be paid in the workshop rises to 700 euros, making intervention in the combustion engine of the hybrid system more demanding. The probability of making a major repair is 11.22%.
Rounding out the podium, another Toyota. The Corolla is the third cheapest car to maintain in its first decade, with an estimated cost of €4,000. The probability of being subject to an intervention of more than 500 euros during this period is 11.89%.
Tesla Model S
Perhaps the car that makes the biggest difference between what it costs and what you pay in the workshop, the Tesla Model S has an estimated value of $4,500 to maintain over 10 years, with a slim chance of a major repair (8.64 %).
Tesla Model Y
The SUV of the Elon Musk brand is more expensive to maintain than the other cars in the range (4,600 euros) and the risk of major breakdown also rises slightly (11.68%).
According to this research, the owner of a Toyota Supra will spend an average of 4,900 euros on maintenance over 10 years, while the chance of a major malfunction is 12.57%.
The estimated 10-year cost for the Honda Civic is 5,160 euros and the risk of major failure is 15.57%.
The Mazda3 will have a 10-year average maintenance cost of €5,300, with a very low repair risk of 16.22%.
Toyota’s SUV has in its hybrid system which makes maintenance very cheap, up to 5,300 euros in 10 years. The probability of a collapse is also not very high: 16.08%.
The Toyota RAV4 closes the “top 10”, with an average maintenance price over 10 years of 5,400 euros, while the chance of a major repair is 16.08%.
